Parklands Court Resident Irene Celebrates 100th Birthday and Shares the Secret to a Happy Life

There was a very special celebration at Parklands Court Care Home as resident Irene marked her remarkable 100th birthday, surrounded by family, friends and fellow residents for a day filled with love, laughter and treasured memories.

Born in 1926, Irene has witnessed a century of extraordinary change, living through historic moments including the Second World War, the moon landing, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the rapid technological advances that have transformed everyday life.

Despite experiencing so much history, Irene believes the secret to a long and happy life is wonderfully simple.

Growing up in Bloxwich, she remembers her father giving her advice that has stayed with her throughout her life: always be kind and help others whenever you can. It is a lesson she has carried with her for 100 years and one she credits for helping her live such a fulfilling life.

To mark the milestone, colleagues at Parklands Court crowned Irene queen for the day, ensuring she enjoyed a celebration fit for the occasion. Family members also organised a surprise that brought a huge smile to her face by arriving with a life-sized cardboard cutout of her favourite film star, John Wayne, adding plenty of fun and laughter to the festivities.

Reflecting on the milestone, Irene said:

“I have had a lovely day, getting to 100 has been an accomplishment, my husband lived over 100 before he passed and I am happy to still have all my family around.”

The celebration brought together residents, relatives and colleagues to honour Irene’s incredible life, creating a day filled with joy, conversation and cherished memories. Her story is a reminder that while the world may change, kindness, compassion and strong family bonds remain timeless values.
