Police Scotland Youth Volunteers Bring Fun and Friendship to Golfhill Care Home

2 July 2026

Residents at Golfhill Care Home recently enjoyed a wonderful visit from the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV), who spent the day bringing smiles, conversation, and plenty of activities to residents across the home.

The enthusiastic group visited on Tuesday and rotated around Golfhill’s three units, ensuring that as many residents as possible could join in the fun. Throughout the day, residents enjoyed a variety of games, quizzes, puzzles, and creative activities, with some volunteers even helping residents make colourful friendship bracelets.

The visit also included a special appearance from PC Johnny S and PC David Collie, who delivered an informative and engaging safety talk to residents living in Craigpark Unit. The session focused on personal safety and advice for vulnerable people living within the community, providing valuable information while encouraging discussion and questions.

The day was as much about building connections as it was about activities. Residents thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories from their lives with the volunteers, talking about where they had lived, their careers, and their marriages. In return, the young volunteers learned a great deal from the residents’ experiences and wisdom.

One resident commented: “It has been lovely chatting to the young people and telling them about our lives. They have been so interested in our stories.”

The volunteers and officers also enjoyed lunch together in Golfhill’s B Happie Café, where Chef Hugh provided a delicious meal for everyone to enjoy.

Colleagues at the home praised the young volunteers for their kindness, enthusiasm, and maturity, with many commenting that there were definitely some future nurses, carers, and even TV presenters in the making.

The partnership is set to continue, with the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers returning to Golfhill this Wednesday to take part in a gardening event alongside residents.

The visit was a fantastic example of the positive impact intergenerational activities can have, bringing people together, encouraging conversation, and creating meaningful connections that benefit everyone involved.
