Roseacres Celebrates Connection and Culture With Philippine Cultural Day

25 March 2026

On 20th March, Roseacres Residential Care Home proudly hosted a vibrant and heartfelt Philippine Cultural Day—an event dedicated to celebrating diversity, strengthening connections, and creating meaningful shared experiences for residents, families, and staff.

At Roseacres, we are proud to be a diverse and inclusive community. This is reflected not only in the residents we support but also within our staff team, where approximately 32% identify as Filipino. In recognition of this, and as part of our ongoing commitment to embracing cultural identity and inclusion, we initiated our first cultural celebration focusing on the Philippines—honouring the heritage, traditions, and contributions of our Filipino colleagues.

The event was thoughtfully designed to be immersive and engaging. Guests were welcomed with a specially prepared presentation that offered a glimpse into the Philippines—its landscapes, traditions, and vibrant way of life. Through a combination of visuals, music, and storytelling, residents and families were transported, even momentarily, to the sights and sounds of the country, creating a rich sensory experience that sparked curiosity and conversation.

Adding to the atmosphere, members of our team performed a traditional Filipino dance, showcasing both pride and passion for their culture. One of the most touching moments of the day was a live musical performance inspired by the Filipino tradition of Harana—a form of serenade historically used in courtship. Accompanied by guitar, staff sang “Through the Years” by Kenny Rogers in honour of a resident couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary that same week. The gesture was deeply moving, and the couple expressed immense joy and gratitude, sharing that they had not expected such a meaningful tribute.

Food played a central role in bringing everyone together. In true Filipino spirit of “salo-salo”—a communal gathering centred around sharing meals—our kitchen team prepared a wide array of traditional dishes, including adobo, lumpia (spring rolls), lechon (roast pork belly), and chopsuey, alongside a selection of kakanin (sweet rice-based delicacies). A refreshing homemade drink, buko pandan, prepared by one of our care staff, was also served and proved to be a favourite among guests, described as both “delicious” and “moreish.”

The celebration continued with karaoke, a beloved Filipino pastime, where residents, families, and staff came together in song and laughter. The atmosphere was joyful, relaxed, and inclusive—creating a sense of togetherness that extended beyond the event itself.

Feedback from families and visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented on how “natural and authentic” the celebration felt, likening it to “a party in your own home.” Others shared how much they appreciated the opportunity to learn about Filipino culture in such an engaging and heartfelt way, with one visitor remarking, “We truly felt like we were in the Philippines—maybe it’s time to visit.”

Events like Philippine Cultural Day highlight the importance of culturally enriching activities within a care home setting. Beyond entertainment, they promote inclusion, foster understanding, and support emotional wellbeing by creating opportunities for residents to connect—with each other, with staff, and with the wider world. They also empower staff to share their identities, strengthening team cohesion and enhancing the authenticity of care provided.

At Roseacres, we believe that meaningful engagement is central to quality of life. Celebrating culture not only honours individuality but also builds a stronger, more connected community. Following the success of this event, we are excited to continue our cultural programme and look forward to exploring and celebrating many more cultures in the months ahead.

We eagerly anticipate our next celebration—and the opportunity to create even more memorable experiences for all who call Roseacres home.
