Shrove Tuesday Brings Sweet Memories and Smiles to Bishops Cleeve Care Home
18 February 2026
Residents, families, and colleagues at Bishops Cleeve Care Home came together to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a warm and welcoming whole-home celebration filled with music, memories, and of course — delicious pancakes.
As part of the home’s weekly Tuesday morning Baking Club, residents rolled up their sleeves to prepare the pancake mixture from scratch. Natalie carefully measured the ingredients while several large mixing bowls were used to whisk the batter to the perfect consistency. Resident Muriel even recruited her daughter Janet to join in the fun, making it a true family affair.
With smooth 60s music playing in the background, residents sang along as they baked, creating a joyful atmosphere across the suites and café. The morning was filled with laughter and storytelling, as residents shared their own pancake traditions and recipes from years gone by. After much discussion, everyone agreed that the best pancakes are simply served with classic lemon and sugar — no extras needed.
In the afternoon, family and friends joined their loved ones for a special pancake-themed afternoon tea in the café, enjoying the freshly made treats together. The day offered wonderful sensory experiences, from the comforting smells of pancakes cooking to the familiar skills of mixing, whisking, and tasting.
Celebrations like these highlight the importance of meaningful activities that bring people together, spark memories, and create moments of connection. It was a truly enjoyable day for everyone involved, filled with smiles, reminiscence, and plenty of sweet treats.
