Therapy Dog brings Joy to Woodstock Residents

22 January 2025

Woodstock Care Home have always prided themselves with being a very animal friendly home and in the past have had many animal residents including cats, dogs, chickens and even budgies.

For the past 18months Therapy Dogs Nationwide volunteer Brenda has been visiting fortnightly with her 7 year old Yorkiepoo Larry. The visits take place every other Friday morning and it is a favourite activity for both residents and colleagues alike as Larry is a perfect little soul that encapsulates everything B Happie stands for and allows the residents to feel Connected Safe Relaxed and most of all Happie.

Animal-assisted interventions can have so many positive effects for example helping to improve self-esteem and confidence and  promote quality of life and encourage independence. There has been much research into the benefits which also shows it can help reduce anxiety, improve mood and help reduce the need for pharmaceutical interventions.

Animals form a huge part of the Wellbeing Programme at Woodstock and Bert’s amazing creatures visit every few months as most residents are animal lovers and the visits can help spark memories, start reminiscing discussions and allow individual’s the opportunity to learn about different animals and try new experiences such as holding a snake.
