West Ridings Care Home Celebrates Burns Night in True Scottish Style
3 February 2026
West Ridings Care Home enjoyed a fantastic day celebrating Burns Night, with residents and staff coming together to embrace Scottish culture, food, and traditions.
The celebrations began with a beautifully decorated trolley filled with Scottish-themed treats and activities. Residents enjoyed rounds of Scottish bingo, complete with prizes, a fun Scottish quiz, and the chance to dress up in traditional-style Scottish hats with ginger hair. The atmosphere was full of laughter as residents sipped on Irn-Bru and enjoyed classic Scottish shortbread.
At lunchtime, the dining rooms were transformed with tartan placemats and serviettes, setting the scene for a true Scottish feast. The kitchen team, including Scottish chef John, prepared a traditional menu of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, followed by Cranachan for dessert. Chef John proudly served the meals wearing his traditional Highland dress, chatting with residents and bringing smiles to every table. The lunch was a great success, with residents clearly enjoying both the food and the warm interaction with the team.
The celebrations continued into the afternoon with a wee dram of Scottish whisky, followed by an incredible performance from a real bagpiper. Residents clapped along, danced, and tapped their feet as the music filled the home, creating a truly uplifting atmosphere.
The day ended with comforting homemade Scotch broth, a Scottish platter, and rice cakes and scones, rounding off a memorable celebration.
Staff across the home worked together to ensure the day was special and meaningful. One resident laughed while enjoying his whisky and said, “I’ve never been fed as much!” Another gentleman simply thanked the team for “a lovely day.”
