19 February 2024
Residents of Netherton Green Care Home were treated to a delightful excursion to Merry Hill shopping centre, creating cherished memories and relishing the opportunity to engage in everyday activities.
Accompanied by staff members, a couple of residents embarked on a journey that brought a sense of joy and fulfillment. The outing began with a visit to a pet shop, where the residents marveled at the variety of animals on display. For Graham, the sight of the birds brought back fond memories of his days spent tending to his own aviary at home, evoking a sense of nostalgia and connection to his past.
The shopping expedition continued as residents browsed through stores, relishing the chance to select their own clothes and accessories. For Lilian, the experience of choosing her own garments was a simple pleasure that brought a sense of normalcy and independence. She expressed her delight, remarking, “It was lovely to do normal things like shopping for our own clothes and going out for lunch.”
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the lunchtime feast at an all-you-can-eat restaurant, where residents indulged in a variety of culinary delights. The diverse menu, featuring Asian and Indian cuisine, proved to be a hit among the group. Graham and Lilian both praised the delicious food, savouring each flavourful bite and relishing the opportunity to try new dishes.
Reflecting on the day’s adventures, Graham summed up the experience succinctly, declaring, “The whole day was great.” His sentiment was echoed by Lilian, who expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to engage in activities that brought a sense of joy and fulfilment.
The outing to Merry Hill shopping centre not only provided residents with a welcome change of scenery but also served as a reminder of the importance of embracing life’s simple pleasures.
