Aurora and Gizmo Bring Joy to Netherton Green Resident’s Broken Heart

A KIND Dudley youngster has helped a broken-hearted dog lover to feel better by bringing her beloved pet dog Gizmo into his care home.

When her grandma Karen Winmill told Aurora, 6, that one of the residents she cares for at Netherton Green Care Home on Bowling Green Road was missing his best friend, she wanted to help.

Tony Willetts was the proud owner of adorable Shih Tzu Teddy for seven years before he was forced to rehome his pet when he was taken into hospital.

But as the Wellbeing Co-ordinator at the Advinia Healthcare home, Karen soon discovered that Gizmo is the spitting image of Teddy when Tony spotted him.

Tony said: “I love Gizmo, he looks just like my Teddy, who I miss so much.

“It broke my heart to have to give Teddy up, but I know he’s gone to a loving home. Spending time with Gizmo makes me feel better about it all, and it’s wonderful to have him with me.”

Gizmo has been visiting Netherton Green Care Home for two years to provide pet therapy for the residents.

According to Karen, Aurora was thrilled to discover the special bond between her pet and Tony.

Karen said: “Gizmo is wonderful with the residents, but especially with Tony, who adores him.

“Aurora is so proud of him and told me she loves that he makes old people happy.

“Gizmo will sit on Tony’s lap for ages when he comes in to visit, and Tony spends his time fussing and cuddling him, which Gizmo loves.

“It’s magic for me to see the impact that Gizmo’s visits have on Tony and the happiness their bond brings him.”
