Bassingbourn Band Brings Joy to Maycroft Care Home
4 March 2024
In a heart-warming display of community spirit and musical talent, Maycroft Care Home was treated to an afternoon of delightful melodies courtesy of the Bassingbourn Band.
Despite concerns about the room size, the seven-member band, accompanied by their conductor, adapted their volume perfectly to create a harmonious atmosphere for the residents. Foot tapping, chair dancing, sing-alongs, and infectious smiles filled the room as the residents reveled in the live performance.
Resident John expressed his elation, stating, “I’m over the moon, it was a great concert,” while Alistair chimed in, praising the band, “They’re jolly good. It’s lovely listening to them.” Pam P echoed the sentiment, eagerly anticipating the band’s return, saying, “It’s great having something a bit different. I can’t wait for them to come back again.”
The local band members themselves were equally thrilled by the residents’ engagement. One band member remarked, “Well, that went well. The residents were really engaged, and I saw lots of foot tapping and happy faces.”
Lucy, the Wellbeing Coordinator at Maycroft, shared her joy at witnessing the residents’ enthusiasm, highlighting a particularly memorable moment during “The Great Escape” when residents clapped and marched in time with the music. She emphasized the importance of such events in enhancing the residents’ well-being, noting, “Residents’ smiles and laughter are a huge part of my job satisfaction.”
The event not only brought joy to the residents but also exemplified the power of music in fostering connection and community spirit. As the melodies filled the air and laughter echoed through the halls, Maycroft Care Home once again proved to be a place where moments of happiness and togetherness are cherished and celebrated.
