14 May 2024

Residents of Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home and their loved ones came together for a week-long celebration of all things Eurovision, culminating in a delightful array of flower arranging sessions and an indulgent Afternoon Tea/Quiz event. As the Eurovision Song Contest Final approached on Saturday, May 11th, the care home dedicated itself to capturing the spirit of the iconic competition.

Throughout the week, residents and staff immersed themselves in Eurovision festivities, showcasing their creativity with themed flower arranging sessions and testing their Eurovision knowledge with an entertaining quiz. The lively atmosphere was further enhanced by sing-alongs to classic Eurovision entries, transporting everyone back to the glitz and glamour of the renowned song contest.

On Saturday, the main event unfolded with homemade Lavender-flavored scones, adorned with blackcurrant jam and clotted cream, served alongside the engaging quiz.

Resident’s family members joined in for the Flower Arranging session adding a special connection to the activity. Among the attendees, Angela took charge with playful flair during the flower arranging activity, while residents savored every moment of the musical journey and culinary delights. The foyer area, festooned with flags representing Eurovision countries, provided a colorful backdrop that residents fondly admired, lamenting its removal in the subsequent week.

Beverley, the activities coordinator, orchestrated the festivities with skill and enthusiasm, ensuring that each aspect of the celebration brought joy and engagement to all involved. The flower arranging sessions not only brought smiles but also provided a cognitive challenge as residents focused on creating displays inspired by the vibrant Eurovision flags.

As the quiz unfolded, residents and staff alike reveled in the spirited competition, with cheers, laughter, and the occasional groan punctuating the lively proceedings. The lavender-infused twist on the traditional Cream Tea proved to be a hit, eliciting enthusiastic approval and leaving taste buds tingling with delight.

As Eurovision Week drew to a close, the residents of Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home cherished the memories created during the festivities, grateful for the opportunity to come together, celebrate, and share in the joy of community and companionship.
