The New Braemount Garden Club Puts Down Some Roots
7 April 2021
Green-fingered Residents at Braemount Care Home are excitedly planning the start of their brand-new garden club.
Activities Co-ordinator Sam Maguire hit upon the idea of starting a Home gardening group after some lovely walks around the grounds with Resident Helen.
She discovered that there were quite a few Residents who’d been keen gardeners in the past and would enjoy the chance to get involved with the outdoor space.
Keen to be as inclusive as possible, Sam’s been working out how to adapt different tasks for Residents so they can get stuck in.
Sam said: “We were all inspired by the ‘Advinia In Bloom’ competition, and when I got the Residents together, they said they’d love a gardening club.
“It’s essential that the Residents lead the project and come up with the things they’d like to see and do in the garden.
“We’re in the planning stages right now, ahead of our first proper session at the end of March.
“It’s going to be exciting to see the plans take shape and for the garden to bloom under their care.”
Groundsman Kenny will assist the group and together they’ll plan to tackle some specific areas where they can plant beautiful flowers and plants that’ll look terrific in the summer.
Sam added: “In May, the theme of the month is getting physical, and our gardening group will have plenty of opportunities to be active.
“We’re all excited about getting together to work on our garden so we can enjoy summer out there.”
