Annan Court Makes Final Clap For Carers Extra Special

Team Annan Court marked the UK’s final ‘Clap For Carers’ with an extra special celebration.

Activities Co-ordinator June Fitzpatrick arranged for piper Kevin Bell, cornet player Emma Johnstone and local Councillor Archie Dryburgh to join Residents at a safe distance.

The musicians played a selection of well-loved tunes, while Mr Dryburgh arrived wearing his King’s Own Scottish Borderers uniform to represent Annan Council.

It’s meant a lot for Residents to pay their respects to key workers every Thursday, and June said that the celebration was very moving.

June said: “Our Thursday ‘Clap For Carers’ has become very special to all of us – particularly our Residents.

“The Residents assembled in the lounge where we have nice big windows so they could watch the musicians play outside and join in by singing.

“One gentleman who lives here spends a lot of time in bed, but he’s been making an extra special effort to get up and join in with these celebrations. It’s been a massive boost for him – his family are delighted.

“We’ve had terrific feedback from many Relatives who are so happy to see their loved ones participating in this fantastic initiative.”

During the celebrations, Emma played a medley of much-loved songs on her cornet, while Kevin – who performs at Highland Cathedral – piped uplifting Scottish tunes.

Neither of the musicians would accept a fee for their time, which was incredibly generous of them.

Meanwhile, families were able to catch up with the fun on the Annan Court Facebook page.

June added: “Our Facebook page is helping our Residents’ loved ones to feel reassured that they are busy, happy and having fun.

“We’re very lucky to have incredibly supportive families, who give us lots of positive feedback and that means the world to our team.”
