Clydebank Care Home Workers Win National Talent Show

24 April 2023

Michael Gallagher and Charlene Reeves, from Hill View Care Home, auditioned earlier this year for the ‘Care Sector’s Got Talent’ show and were over the moon to make it to the final eight and attend the grand final in Derby Arena.
They performed a note-perfect duet of the song ‘Shallow’ which was a hit for Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper following the release of the 2018 movie ‘A Star is Born’. The song got the duo the judges seal of approval and
they were voted as winners of the national competition.

Michael is a wellbeing coordinator who specialises in providing meaningful activities to residents in the home based on Singer Road in Clydebank.

He said: “I lost my job during the pandemic and came along to Hillview by chance and I’ve been there for three years now and wouldn’t change it. The care sector is phenomenal.”

Charlene, a healthcare assistant, added: “I’ve been in care for 10 years and it’s a job I absolutely love. It’s very challenging but also very rewarding. Performing in the final was an amazing experience, they made us feel like superstars and I want to do it all again.”

Charlene will get her wish because, as winners, they not only scooped the title and prizes but they will also be performing again in front of thousands of people at the Care Sector’s Grand Fundraising Ball in London in September, this year.

Care Sector’s Got Talent showcases diverse talent from care homes across the UK.

The event was streamed live on YouTube and Hill View’s act was one of two Scottish finalists who both came from care homes operated by Advinia Healthcare.

The four expert judges were wowed by their performance and they received some amazing comments.

The judges said: “Your voices blend together beautifully and the chemistry you have together and the way you support each other epitomises all that is great about social care.”

The annual event raises incredible amounts of money for two great charities, Alzheimer’s UK and the Care Workers Society.
