Craigbank Care Home Celebrates National Pet Day with a Special Visitor – Vixter the Horse!
15 April 2025

At Craigbank Care Home, National Pet Day was celebrated in unforgettable fashion on Friday 11th April with the introduction of “THERAPET” – a new initiative to bring therapeutic animal visits to residents. Marking April as National Pet Month, residents, staff, families, and even local children gathered outdoors to welcome a very special guest: Lisnock Vixter, a stunning horse owned by our Wellbeing Coordinator, Julie White.

The sun shone brightly, creating the perfect setting for the day’s events. Residents were delighted to stroke, cuddle, and chat with Vixter, whose calm and friendly nature brought instant joy to everyone present. Some enthusiastic residents even treated Vixter to his favourite snacks – polo mints and carrots – which he happily accepted.

The excitement didn’t stop there! Carer Linda bravely hopped into the saddle for a quick ride, prompting cheers and laughter from the crowd. In a moment that had everyone smiling, Care Home Manager Claribel followed suit after an enthusiastic vote from the crowd, riding Vixter with a grin from ear to ear.

Families, including visiting children, were equally enchanted by Vixter’s presence. Many got the chance to sit on him and pet his soft mane, making cherished memories together.
“Well done Vixter! He was a superstar,” Julie shared with a laugh, adding, “He says he loved the visit – it was NEIGH bother!”

The day was a huge success and marks the beginning of more THERAPET experiences to come at Craigbank, supporting residents’ wellbeing through meaningful, joyful connections with animals.
