Gentlemen’s Whisky Tasting Club Is A Hit At Craigbank

A new club dedicated to a shared passion for whisky is giving the gentleman at Craigbank care home the opportunity to spend quality time together.

The Craigbank Gentleman’s Whisky Tasting Club is the brainchild of Resident Eddie, who has always been keen on a wee dram.

When Eddie moved into the Home, Activities Co-ordinator Karen Gangiel discovered he used to belong to a dedicated club for his favourite spirit.

After he told Karen how much he used to enjoy the sessions, Karen decided to set up Craigbank care home’s version of the club so Eddie could keep up his hobby.

Karen said: “Every Thursday, the gentlemen join me in the Dorchester, our Home pub, for their whisky tasting club.

“It’s a lovely excuse for them to get together, watch sports and play bar games.

“We’ll have the horse racing, football or some other sport for them to watch, as well as dominoes and cards to play.

“Everybody gets to enjoy their whisky and water and have fun together.”

Karen says that talk often turns to the drinking establishments that the Residents used to frequent.

She added: “Eddie is a very quiet man, but he loves to reminisce about the pubs he used to drink at in the west end of Glasgow.

“We talk about the areas the Residents are from and their happy pub memories.

“It’s a lovely way to spend Thursday afternoons and to build new friendships.

“I’m so glad that Eddie suggested it, and we’ve been able to recreate his whisky tasting club experience.”
