Dementia Awareness Group Donates MP3 Players To Residents At Gorton Parks

The Purple Angel Dementia Awareness Group have kindly donated five MP3 players to Residents at Gorton Parks to use as music therapy.

Residents have been able to load up the players with their favourite music and compile playlists to enjoy as part of their daily activities.

Music is particularly effective as a therapeutic tool for people living with dementia, as the part of the brain that houses music and lyrics is not affected by the condition.

Thanks to Purple Angels, Residents have been enjoying singing and dancing to artists including The Beatles, Dolly Parton, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Vera Lynn, Johnny Cash and many other favourites.

Activities Co-ordinator Kirsty Walters said the players had been an excellent resource for Residents.

Kirsty said: “It’s great to see the impact of music on Residents, particularly those people living with dementia.

“Now we have the MP3 players, we can make playlists for each Resident and provide a new activity for those with limited mobility.

“It’s been particularly moving to see the reaction from Residents who are confined to bed. Being able to listen to music has really brought them out of themselves.

“We can’t thank Purple Angels enough for their donation.”
