Wedding Dream Comes True For Elderslie Resident Marie!

There were tears of joy at Elderslie this autumn when a special bride and groom paid a surprise visit to resident Marie.

Marie, 84, was stunned to see her daughter Jani and new son-in-law Clive arrive in their wedding outfits for the moving moment.

The happy couple desperately wanted Marie and her husband Andy at their wedding, but it was impossible as the celebrations were an 800-mile round trip away in Cambridgeshire.

So, Jani and Clive decided to bring some wedding magic to Elderslie so Marie and Andy could share their happiness.

Jani said: “It was a real shame that Mum and Dad couldn’t make the wedding, so we brought the wedding to them!

“We were married on 23^rd September as that was the closest date we could get to Mum and Dad’s wedding anniversary on the 24^th.

“My Dad visits Mum most days, and we try to get up every six weeks or so. But this time, it was a whirlwind visit, as I couldn’t wait to see them.

“The look on Mum’s face made it all worthwhile.”

The new Mr and Mrs Haylock had arrived with the top tier of their wedding cake, which they shared with the Residents who live alongside Marie on her floor.

Office Administrator Charlene Prentice admits that she was moved beyond words when she caught sight of the bride and groom walking into the Home.

Charlene said: “It was really quite emotional – I had a wee tear in my eye!

“It was so lovely for Marie and Andy to see Jani in her beautiful dress, and it gave everyone at Elderslie a huge lift.

“Everyone was buzzing, and we’re still talking about it now!”

Meanwhile, Jani said she’s delighted with the love and care her beloved mum gets at Elderslie, where she’s lived for the past three and a half years.

Jani added: “Mum is really happy at Elderslie, and when Dad visits, they look out for him too.

“The staff are all great, and they helped Mum and Dad watch the wedding on video, and then when we visited, they were all so welcoming and emotional.

“It was just fantastic.”
