Football Memories Scotland Brings Festive Joy to Rutherglen Care Home at SPFL Trust Christmas Lunch

Residents of Rutherglen Care Home were treated to an unforgettable day of festive cheer as Football Memories Scotland, who extended a special invitation to the SPFL Trust Festive Friends Christmas lunch at the iconic Hampden Park.

The excitement was palpable as residents arrived at the national stadium, where they were greeted and escorted to the exclusive ‘Presidential Suite.’ The suite offered a breathtaking view of the hallowed pitch, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and nostalgia for those who have cherished memories of football experiences.

The festive table was adorned with delights as attendees found gifts of tablet, and “Scotland’s Stories,” a book of true tales written by the people of Scotland.

A sumptuous three-course lunch followed, commencing with lentil soup, followed by roast chicken with festive trimmings, and concluding with a delectable cheesecake.

The highlight of the day was the appearance of Roary, the Hampden mascot, who spread joy as he shook hands and posed for photos with delighted residents. The festive spirit continued with the charming presence of children from a local primary school, who entertained the audience with delightful Christmas songs, sparking a sing-along that resonated through the suite.

John Bain, an 85-year-old attendee, marveled at the view of the pitch, expressing, “What a great view, brought back a lot of memories.” Drew Thomson, aged 91, shared his delight with the culinary experience, stating, “Never tasted food like it, a very enjoyable day.”
