Goldielea Care Home Serves Up Tennis-Themed Fun During the Australian Open
3 February 2025

Throughout January, Goldielea Care Home embraced the excitement of the Australian Open with a series of engaging tennis-themed activities. With several residents keen on watching tennis, the home was abuzz with energy and sporting spirit as highlights from the matches were shared and discussed.
Residents were particularly invested this year, knowing that Scottish tennis legend Andy Murray is now part of Novak Djokovic’s coaching team. “It’s great to see Andy still involved in the game,” one resident shared. “It gives us even more reason to cheer for Djokovic!”
The care home organized a variety of tennis-inspired activities to keep the competitive spirit alive. Balloon tennis was a huge hit, with residents showing off their reflexes and hand-eye coordination. “I didn’t think I’d be any good, but I surprised myself!” laughed one resident.

Friday mornings were made extra special with a visit from Let’s Get Sporty, who ran a tennis skills session. “It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and having fun,” said a staff member. “Even those who don’t usually participate were keen to give it a go.”
Residents also tested their knowledge with two tennis-themed quizzes—one focused on identifying tennis stars through the years, while the other challenged them to recall players’ names. “I forgot how many amazing players there have been over the years,” a resident reflected.
To round off the fun, residents shared interesting tennis facts and discussed their favorite players. “Federer was always my favorite—so stylish on the court,” one resident noted.
The event captured the competitive spirit and camaraderie that defines Goldielea, making January a month to remember for all tennis lovers at the home.
