Hammerwich Hall Celebrates Burns Night with Homemade Shortbread and Craft Session

8 February 2024

Residents at Hammerwich Hall celebrated Burns Night with a delightful combination of baking and creativity, as they gathered to honor the Scottish tradition with homemade shortbread and a craft session.

The day kicked off with residents rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands doughy, as they crafted Scottish shortbread from scratch. The aroma of butter and sugar filled the air as they lovingly prepared their baking masterpieces.

As the morning turned into afternoon, the residents eagerly sampled their freshly baked shortbread alongside a comforting cup of tea. Sally, one of the residents, expressed her joy, saying, “I have enjoyed making a Scottish shortbread on Burns Night. The shortbread was very tasty and tasted just like we used to do years ago in Scotland.”

Sheila chimed in, adding, “I enjoyed homemade shortbread on Burns Night. It tasted better than from the shop.”

Esther, another enthusiastic participant, shared her excitement for future celebrations, saying, “I have enjoyed a baking session and, of course, the taste of homemade shortbread. I am looking forward to more baking sessions and celebrations in Hammerwich Hall.”

In addition to the baking festivities, residents indulged in an art session where they depicted scenes of Scotland and the works of Robert Burns. Jean expressed her satisfaction, stating, “I was happy with my art activities and tasting homemade shortbread. I am very happy with our activities as everyone is trying their best to make us happy.”

Barry, known for his passion for crafts, was delighted with the art session, reaffirming his enjoyment of the creative endeavors.Mal, a regular participant in baking sessions, shared his ongoing delight, saying, “I always enjoy baking sessions and later on tasting our masterpieces, especially shortbread.”
