Haydale Care Home Celebrates Chinese New Year
8 February 2024
Residents at Haydale Care Home in the Tollcross area of the city, took part in a Chinese taster session to celebrate the event – which included sweet and sour curry, fried rice, prawn crackers, prawn toast and spring rolls.
Some residents even tried Chinese bubble tea for the first time – which got mixed reactions.
Resident Grace McKenna joked: “It doesn’t have the same effect as whiskey.”
Residents also took part in various arts and craft sessions which included making their own fans with a Chinese symbol of their choosing, as well as learning some popular phrases like good morning and goodbye in the language.
Resident Ella McLeish said: “I can’t believe I am still learning new things at my age.”
The session was hosted by wellbeing coordinator Isabel Cummings, who said: “It’s important we celebrate other cultures and introduce residents to experiences they may not of had the chance to do.”
Chinese New Year 2024 will take place on Saturday, February 10.
This year the animal sign is the Dragon.
