Haydale Care Home Residents Unite for Old Firm Excitement
8 January 2024
This afternoon at Haydale Care Home, residents enthusiastically gathered for the anticipation and viewing of the Old Firm match. The gentlemen proudly picked their sides, donning scarves, hats, and banners, while one resident, Rena Mitchell, surpassed everyone in her engrossment with the game. In a mixed company setting, it was heartening to witness everyone sharing cherished memories of past Old Firm matches and reminiscing about their favorite footballers.
Cheers of “Mon the Hoops” and “Mon the Gers” filled the room as residents savored beers and snacks, reveling in the camaraderie while watching the game together. Despite residing in a care home, the residents proved that they can actively participate in and enjoy significant events, especially in the passionate context of an Old Firm match in the heart of Glasgow’s east end.
William Stirling pledged, “If Celtic wins, I’ll serenade you all with a song.” William gained recent recognition on Haydale’s Facebook page for his heartfelt rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” alongside a Nightshift carer.
Ewan Mains expressed, “It’s comforting to remain connected to the outside world, even from the confines of a care home.”
