Haydale Fairy Trail Creates Magical Experience For Residents
10 August 2021
A new art project focused on fairies has brought the outside indoors at Haydale Care Home.
Residents and Colleagues have worked together to create a magical walkway inside Haydale’s walls.
The trail has been named ‘Fairdale’ and includes a magnificent mural that stretches the length of one of Corbett Unit’s corridors.
The wall is adorned with wildlife, trees and magical creatures, as well as hand-painted miniature houses to give the space a 3D feel.
Haydale Activity Co-ordinators Isabel Cummings and Kirstin Millar led the project and got everyone involved.
According to Isabel, the fairy trail has been a joy for everyone to work on.
Isabel said: “We’re all so proud of ‘Fairdale’ – it’s such a lovely place to visit.
“It’s been wonderful to work on the project as we’ve been able to involve many of the Residents, including those living with dementia or learning difficulties.
“We’ve also got an indoor edible herb garden in the space, so you really get that outdoor feeling.
“It’s going to brighten up our days for years to come.”
The works of art were completed during several sessions as ‘Fairdale’ took shape.
During the fun-filled afternoons, Residents enjoyed socialising and unleashing their creative sides.
Isabel added: “Arts and crafts have significant therapeutic benefits.
“It was terrific to see Residents working together.
“What’s even better is that we can enjoy the results now and in the future.”
