19 February 2024
Residents at Hillview Care Home were treated to a delightful Valentine’s Day afternoon filled with music, dancing, and plenty of love. The festivities, organised by activities coordinator Michael Gallagher, brought smiles and joy to all who attended.
As Michael serenaded the crowd with timeless classics from the likes of Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, and Dean Martin, the residents couldn’t help but join in, singing and swaying along to the familiar tunes. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and camaraderie as everyone embraced the spirit of the day.
One of the residents, Sheila Welsh, 88, expressed her delight, saying, “I had a lovely afternoon singing along with the songs and certainly built up an appetite from all of the dancing.”
Michael Mulkerrin, 77, shared his appreciation for live music, particularly enjoying the rendition of Roger Miller’s “King of the Road.” “I love live music and really enjoyed the rendition of Roger Miller’s ‘King of the Road’,” he remarked.
For Janet Holland, 87, the event brought back fond memories of past concerts. “It was great fun. I have been to see Neil Diamond several times in concert and thoroughly enjoyed Michael singing some of his songs,” she said, reminiscing about her love for live performances.
Adding to the charm of the occasion, Michael took on the role of “Mr. Valentine” as he handed out single red roses to each resident during his musical performance. By the end of the event, he had become synonymous with the romantic holiday, earning the affectionate nickname from those in attendance.
