Children Of Local Key Workers Send Moving Letters To West Ridings Residents

6 August 2020

The Residents of West Ridings Care Home were deeply moved after receiving some special post from the children of local key workers.

The Residents of West Ridings Care Home were deeply moved after receiving some special post from the children of local key workers.

Pupils attending Rook’s Nest Academy, a primary school based in Wakefield, were asked to write letters to Residents as part of a special learning exercise.

Their teachers wanted the children – who are all still in school because their parents are key workers – to find the positives in these challenging times and practice their handwriting skills.

The result was an array of fantastic letters and drawings, which Home Manager Laura Lambert displayed in the windows of the Home.

Laura said: “It was wonderful to receive some lovely letters from the children in the post.

“In their letters, the Rook’s Nest pupils told our Residents about all the things they are looking forward to doing when the lockdown is over.

“For many of them, it was the chance to hug their grandparents again, which was particularly poignant for the Residents here.”

As well as their beautifully written letters, the children sent in pictures of rainbows and animals to brighten up the Home.

Colleagues have displayed their pictures and some drawings done by youngsters in the Mini Maestros pre-school group in the windows at West Ridings.

Laura said: “It’s a beautiful display of colourful drawings and we have loved receiving every single picture and letter. It’s lovely of the children to make such an effort for our Residents.”
