Local Children Invited to Name Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home Suites

2 February 2021

Bishops Cleeve History

Youngsters from Bishop’s Cleeve will draw on local history to name the suites in the village’s newest luxury care home.

Children from the village, and the surrounding area, are being invited to suggest names for Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home, which is due to open its doors in early March to residents.

And the competition is also open to families and budding local historians

To take part the home is encouraging locals to go online, or speak to older members of the community, to see what they can discover about the village’s past.

These facts and anecdotes will then be compiled into a beautiful local history book to be exhibited at the state-of-the-art home during the Covid-secure opening ceremony next month.

The team at the home, on Ruby Road, Greenacres, will review all the entries and choose their favourites to name the four main suites, which comprise the 64-bedroom home.

Community Relations Manager Tommy Fellows said: “Bishop’s Cleeve has a rich, local history and we want to celebrate it and ensure that our home is part of that history and the community around us.

“We want our young people to pick the brains of their seniors so we can come up with some great ideas for naming our suites as well as creating a useful historical archive.

“So, we urge our youngsters to listen carefully to all those wonderful stories and memories people tell you. We are very keen to know all about the area and the people who have lived here through the ages.

“But the project is for everyone – so please do send in your history and together we can celebrate it.”

The home, which is run by Advinia Health Care, is keen to collect as many stories and anecdotes as possible seeking out significant local names and places from history across the ages.

Stories can be emailed or posted, and images are welcome although copyright issues must be considered. Closing date for entries is 29th February.
