Meet Arnie: The Cuddly Pup Bringing Comfort and Joy to Arncliffe Court Care Home

Arncliffe Court Care Home has recently welcomed a very special new resident — and he’s already stealing hearts. Arnie, a lifelike dementia therapy pup, has quickly become a beloved companion for residents and staff.

Donated by Wendy, a caring member of the kitchen team, Arnie may be a stuffed dog, but his impact is very real. Designed to provide comfort and emotional support for those living with dementia, Arnie is soft, warm, and always ready for a cuddle.

“From the moment he arrived, it’s like he belonged here,” shared a care assistant. “You can just see the way people’s faces light up when they hold him. He brings out so many smiles — it’s truly special.”

Residents have taken to Arnie immediately, especially Gio, who has formed a particularly sweet bond with the plush pup.

Staff have noticed a remarkable change in some residents’ moods since Arnie arrived. One team member said, “For some of our residents living with dementia, Arnie brings a sense of calm. They stroke his fur, talk to him, or just hold him close. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.”

Wendy, who generously donated Arnie, said she simply wanted to do something that would bring joy. “I’ve seen firsthand how comforting things like this can be. I never imagined how much of an impact he would have — it’s heartwarming.”

Whether he’s tucked under an arm during afternoon tea or joining in on lounge activities, Arnie is now a treasured part of daily life at Arncliffe.
