Mill View Care Home Marks VE Day with Music, Memories, and Sweet Remembrance
27 May 2025

Residents across Mill View Care Home came together this week to celebrate VE Day in a series of heartwarming events filled with music, creativity, and shared memories. The early celebrations kicked off on Albion House, where residents were joined by friends from Atlas, Martin, and Rutland for a morning of unity and joy.
The highlight of the day was a lively sing-along performance by the fabulous Gabby, known as The D-Day Dolly, who filled the room with cherished wartime tunes. Residents clapped, danced, and sang along, with a few touched to tears by the powerful nostalgia her music evoked.

“The staff and residents really enjoyed Gabby’s performance, with residents dancing, singing, clapping, and a few tears when reminiscing that time in history. The residents are already asking when she can come back!” said Jess Bainton, Wellbeing Coordinator.
In Atlas House, the celebrations continued with a sweet and hands-on activity. Residents including Joan C, Christine, Pat, Barbara, Lilly, and Peggy rolled up their sleeves to make chocolate rice krispie cupcakes—a delightful treat made all the more meaningful by the historical context of wartime chocolate rationing.

Meanwhile, creative energy was in full flow on Albion House, where residents Edna H, Joan, and Jackie crafted beautiful poppy artwork in preparation for VE Day decorations. Their pieces will soon fill the home with colour and remembrance
