Community Volunteers Spruce Up Mill View Entrance
1 September 2022

A big-hearted community group that wants to do good for others have transformed the entrance of Mill View Care Home.
Volunteers from the employment JETS scheme Ingeus took on the gardening job, unaware the UK was about to experience a heatwave.
When they arrived, the temperature was already climbing to 32 degrees, where it stayed for most of the day.
Despite the boiling weather, Team Ingeus was determined to complete the job and give Mill View their all.
Home Manager Susan Walsh said she was in awe of the dedication shown by the volunteers.
Susan said: “It meant the world to us that Ingeus wanted to come and volunteer to help us out.
“The scheme is focused on helping people get back to work and has a strong community engagement ethos.
“The volunteers worked hard all day, and we kept plying them with water to try to beat the heat.
“Some of the Residents went out to say hello and give them encouragement. It was a huge effort!”
There was plenty of weeding and gardening work to do at Mill View’s entrance.
But by the end of the day, Team Ingeus had cleared it all back, and it was looking terrific.
Now the residents are inspired to do some gardening themselves to continue beautifying their Home.
Susan said: “We’re now talking to Residents about planting hanging baskets from them to hang outside the various houses we’ve got on-site.
“We thank Ingeus so much for inspiring us to do even more outside.
“It’s been great to finally start engaging with the community again after the pandemic and build new relationships.
“Everyone from Ingeus did a marvellous job, and we hope to see them again soon.”
