Morrisons’ Flower Donation Helps Newcarron Court Bloom
14 April 2021
A donation of beautiful blooms from supermarket Morrisons has inspired Resident gardening enthusiasts to get busy at Newcarron Court.
Preparations for the Home’s grounds were already underway as the team geared up to participate in this year’s ‘Advinia In Bloom’ competition.
However, when Activities Co-ordinator Hazel Phillips popped into the local Morrisons to pick up some compost for the project, she got chatting to staff.
The conversation inspired Hazel to apply for the supermarket giant’s Community Champion scheme.
Hazel said: “I was telling the lady on the check out about ‘Advinia In Bloom’ and she immediately gave me 10% off the compost, but also mentioned the Community Champion scheme.
“I sent them an email explaining what we are doing and our plans to make two beautiful garden spots for Residents to enjoy.
“I asked them to donate anything we could use in the garden, and they sent us a selection of lovely plants and flowers. We’re delighted.”
Residents are already getting involved with the work, using the indoor potting shed to prepare the plants for the outdoor space.
As well as creating a sensory garden for Residents living with dementia, Hazel said that they are also growing vegetables this year, cultivating a rose garden, and intend to have a sunflower competition.
She said: “Residents love making the most of our outdoor space, and we’re determined to make it as bright and beautiful as possible.”
