Double Victory For Newcarron At Advinia In Bloom!
15 November 2022

Team Newcarron is celebrating after taking home not one but two prizes at this year’s Advinia In Bloom competition.
The horticultural heroes won both the ‘Ground to Fork’ and ‘Special Place – Sensory Garden’ gongs after wowing the judges with their efforts.
Following their 2021 success in the awards, the amateur gardeners were determined to make it a double but didn’t realise they’d be twice as rewarded this year.
However, the judges loved their sensory garden, which was themed around the iconic Nintendo computer game Super Mario Bros.
Newcarron’s Activity Co-ordinator Hazel Phillips said credit must go to all those who helped shore up the team’s win.
Hazel said: “We didn’t expect to win the two categories, but when we found out, it made all the hard work worthwhile!
“We have had a lot of assistance from the Residents and also Family and Friends of the Care Home.
“A special thanks also to Police Scotland, whose youth volunteers have been amazing over the last few months and really helped to transform the gardens into a beautiful area for the residents to enjoy.”
Newcarron’s bumper crops were a standout entry in the ‘Ground to Fork’ category. Chefs use everything they grow to whip up delicious and nutritious meals.
Hazel added, “This year, we grew produce including leeks, carrots, beetroot, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, onions, cabbages, potatoes, apples, rhubarb, and a variety of herbs. Our head chef has been using these to create some wonderful dishes for the residents to enjoy.
“We even made jars of jam and beetroot, which we sold to staff members to raise cash for our house funds.”
Congratulations to Team Newcarron for an exceptional year in the Advinia In Bloom competition.
