Norwood Residents Go VIP At Lion King Production!

Four VIPs from Norwood were chauffeur-driven to a special performance of The Lion King this May.

The ladies were the guests of honour at Cleeves Primary School, where the children were staging their version of the Disney classic.

Kathleen, Muriel, Carolynn and Agnes were picked up from Norwood by limousine and whisked to the school for the performance.

They were seated on the front row and had refreshments delivered to their chairs.

Agnes said, “The show was amazing – I really enjoyed it.

“I felt as though I’d been transported to another world! We were treated like VIPs and given front row seats, chocolate and juice.”

The invitation came from Cleeves’ Head Teacher, Hazel Sim.

She invited her Auntie Carolynn, who lives at Norwood, and her three friends to the production.

Cleeves Primary School was the only Glasgow school chosen to be part of a free programme run by Disney Musicals in Schools and Scottish Opera.

The children worked with two music and drama artists from Scottish Opera to create the production.

According to Hazel, this special 30-minute version of The Lion King has been a labour of love which took months to perfect.

Hazel said: “Working alongside our teaching specialists from Scottish Opera, our staff and children developed the skills and confidence to produce a show to an exceptionally high standard.

“They’ve set the bar high for future years!”

Meanwhile, Norwood Activities Co-ordinator Annemarie Mcewan, who helped organise the trip, thanked everyone involved in making the day special.

Annemarie said: “I’d like to say a huge thank-you to the Coop in Barrhead who provided the limo.

‘The driver, Gary, was brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. I’d also like to thank everyone at Cleeves for inviting us and making us feel so welcome.

“It was a perfect day that none of us will ever forget.”
