Delight At Roseacres As Pepper The Cockapoo Makes Her Weekly Visit

There’s high excitement every Tuesday at Roseacres Care Home when Pepper the Cockapoo comes to visit.

The Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog was first introduced to Residents at the beginning of 2021 when she was just a puppy.

Her owner Jacqui, the sister of Activities Co-ordinator Beverly Hillier, brings Pepper in every week for petting, play and mischief.

Residents always look forward to her arrival and break out in huge smiles when their favourite dog friend turns up.

Beverley said: “Pepper is a beautiful dog with a lovely temperament.

“She has a dedicated spot in the lounge where we put all her toys, and then she goes around entertaining the Residents.

“Pepper has been trained well, so she knows to be calm and gentle with everybody, and Resident’s love petting her.

“She gets plenty of cuddles and strokes during her visits with us.”

Research has shown that spending time with PAT animals can have a profound impact on older people.

Studies have shown that being with animals can lower the heart rate and blood pressure and calm anxiety and depression.

Beverley added: “It is so moving to see the impact Pepper’s visits have on the Residents.

“Pepper is a joyful presence at Roseacres, and she’s adored by the Residents and Colleagues here.”
