Rutherglen Care Home Celebrates National Pie Week with a Delicious Survey of Favourite Pies
11 March 2025

Rutherglen Care Home celebrated National Pie Week in a truly scrumptious way by hosting a survey to discover the residents’ favourite pies. With so many delicious options to choose from, it was no surprise that the results were both traditional and mouth-watering. The top four pies, based on the survey, were then carefully planned into the week’s menu to delight everyone’s taste buds.

The top savoury pie was none other than the classic Scotch pie, which was served on Saturday. This comforting favourite was followed closely by steak pie, which was served on Friday. “There’s nothing better than a hot, meaty Scotch pie to warm you up,” one resident shared. “It reminds me of family gatherings, and the smell always takes me back to my younger days.”

For dessert, the top sweet pie was apple pie, which was served on Monday. One resident remarked, “Apple pie is a classic. It’s so warming, and the cinnamon just adds the perfect touch.” Today, residents enjoyed the second most popular sweet pie – lemon meringue pie, served as a delightful afternoon tea treat. “The lemon meringue pie was absolutely delicious,” a staff member said. “It’s so light and refreshing. You could see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they tucked into it.”
The atmosphere in the home was relaxed and content as everyone enjoyed their pie of choice.

Activity Coordinator at Rutherglen Care Home, said, “National Pie Week has been a lot of fun for everyone. It’s been great seeing the residents enjoy some of their favourite pies and share stories about them. Food always brings people together, and this week was no exception.
