Ryland View’s Intergenerational Project Spreads Halloween Cheer

Residents at Ryland View Care Home had a ‘spook’tacular time and were in high ‘spirits’ for Halloween by teaming up with the local nursery school for some scary fun and games.

Ryland’s Wellbeing Coordinator, Sarah Gillies, said “The Residents really  love the intergenerational bonds they have formed with Smarty Pants Day Nursery and watching them interact with the children and share their wisdom is really inspiring. We took along some Halloween treats and the Residents got dressed up in their Halloween costumes. They read the children a story and then they all took part in arts and crafts together. It was lovely… so much so that one of the ladies got quite emotional.”

Care Home Resident Hazel Robinson, age 84, said “I couldn’t wait to see the children again and had it written in my diary. I wouldn’t have missed this for the world and I really really want to go back again.”

Ryland View is home to around 75 Residents and in preparation for Halloween they had been busy with activities such as pumpkin carving and making decorations to hang around the home. They enjoyed some homemade pumpkin soup and some home baked bread and played Halloween games.

Sarah added “It was great to get everyone involved and to see  families and children taking part too. We made some special memories!”
