School Children Show Support For Snowflake Christmas Appeal

20 December 2020

Bishop's Cleeve snowflake appeal

Bishop’s Cleeve school children are sending messages of goodwill and brightening up their community this Christmas with snowflake window displays.

Students from Grangefield School in Bishops Cleeve, created their own unique snowflake design that will go on show within a local care home.

The Snowflake Appeal was organised by the team at Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home, on Ruby Road, Greenacres, to help lift spirits and spread festive cheer this holiday season.

The snowflakes have been displayed in the windows of the new care home, which is set to open in early 2021 and is operated by Advinia Health Care.

The entries were judged by local artist Tamsin Stuart who also put together a video tutorial to help get the students started with their designs.

She said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed judging all the entries, each one showed great creativity and it was very difficult to choose the winners.

“The appeal is fantastic idea – it’s going to be a difficult Christmas for many, so whatever we can do to brighten up our community is really important. The snowflake window displays are an excellent way to do that.”

More than 50 students took part and the winning entries received prizes of art equipment and sweet treats.

Mrs Phillips, Year 6 Teacher, at Grangefield School, said the appeal was a great success and the children were inspired to spread festive cheer in their community.

She said: “Thank you so much for all the lovely prizes for the children – we were overwhelmed with how generous you have been!

“We have some very happy children. We’re looking forward to working with your new home more in the future.”

“The creativity in their entries was fantastic and the snowflakes look great in our windows. We hope that if you’re walking past our new care home, the displays will put a smile of your face.”

Winning designs and runner ups were chosen from year 6, 3, and reception class.
