Stonedale Lodge Commemorates VE Day with Music, Art, and Intergenerational Joy
27 May 2025

At Stonedale Lodge, VE Day was marked with heartfelt celebrations that spanned several days, allowing our residents, staff, and local community to come together in remembrance, creativity, and joy.
The highlight of the festivities was a lively party hosted at the home, where residents enjoyed a performance from our talented entertainer, Mike. With classic songs and sing-alongs, the atmosphere was filled with smiles, toe-tapping, and even a few impromptu dance moves. Residents clapped and sang along to the familiar wartime tunes, some recalling fond memories of street parties from their youth.

“It felt like being back in the good old days,” one resident said. “The music brought so many memories flooding back.”
Adding a special touch to our VE Day preparations, pupils from our local friends at Bank View School paid us a visit. Together with residents, they helped create handmade decorations and artwork, from colourful flags and poppies to beautifully painted posters. Each house within Stonedale Lodge was transformed with bunting, Union Jack flags, and vibrant homemade pieces proudly displayed.

One staff member shared, “Watching the residents and children working side by side was so moving—it really brought generations together.”
The intergenerational collaboration sparked meaningful conversations and a real sense of community, highlighting the importance of remembrance and shared history.

As we honoured those who served and sacrificed during WWII, our VE Day celebration at Stonedale Lodge was a powerful reminder of unity, resilience, and the joy that can come from simply being together.
