Stonedale Lodge Teams Limber Up For ‘Walk This May’ Competition

11 May 2021

Stonedale Lodge Walk This May

The competition is hotting up at Stonedale Lodge this spring as Residents and Colleagues across six houses prepare for their ‘Walk This May’ tournament.

At the end of April, Residents took part in some indoor movement activities to get them ready for the step challenge, where each house will compete for a grand prize.

Inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 100 laps charity challenge, Residents and Colleagues will be joining forces to log steps for their houses.

The house with the most steps at the end of May will be crowned the winner and receive vouchers to spend on activities.

Senior Activities Co-ordinator Karen Dransfield said the indoor activities were part of the preparation for getting moving in May.

Karen said: “We can’t wait to kick off ‘Walk This May’ – the competition is going to be fierce.

“We’ll be logging our steps on our phones and activity trackers, and we have lots of plans for Residents to get their steps up.

“We want to follow Captain Sir Tom’s example and do lots of laps of Stonedale Lodge with Residents. It’s all about moving and enjoying the fresh air.”

Ahead of the step-a-thon, Residents enjoyed a day of indoor activities that had a carnival theme.

There was a tin-can alley, skittles, bowls, magnetic darts and balloon volleyball.

Karen said: “These activities are inclusive, and it’s great to see the Residents getting together to have fun.

“It’s so important to keep moving, and these activities, plus our chair-based exercise classes, are suitable for everyone.

“We’ve got some fun ideas on how to get all our Residents involved with ‘Walk This May’.”

Home Manager Karen McGrady also wished all competitors the best of luck.

Karen said: “May the best house win!”
