Maycroft Residents Shine At Summer Fete
20 September 2022
This year’s Maycroft summer fete was a roaring success thanks to the efforts of talented Residents.
During a series of craft sessions over the year, the Residents handmade some lovely items to be sold across a myriad of tempting stalls.
Resident Robert made a selection of gorgeous bird boxes from scratch and sold out during the sunny afternoon.
Meanwhile, homemade bird boxes, lavender soaps and cakes flew off the tables as the Meldreth community joined the fun.
Activities Co-ordinator Jayne Paxton said Residents even took part in running the stalls as the event got underway.
Jayne said: “Our summer fete couldn’t have gone better – it was the perfect day!
“The Maycroft team worked hard to set up the stalls, refreshment stands and seating areas for our visitors.
“As the event got underway, the lovely Residents looked after some of the stalls and sold their handmade items.
“We’ve been fielding phone calls since from people asking if Robert will make some more bird boxes for them to purchase!”
Meldreth’s local ukulele band provided the musical entertainment for the day.
According to Jayne, the group are a firm favourite with the Residents and Colleagues.
Jayne said: “Our fantastic friends in the ukulele band played all afternoon free of charge!
“They were taking requests and playing a brilliant selection of songs – everything from I’m The Urban Spaceman to Hey Jude!
“Our visitors got to feast on sweet treats, including Eton Mess, and there were cold glasses of Pimms and lemonade to wash it all down.”
Finally, there was an emotional moment for Colleagues and Residents as they held an auction of paintings by the late Peter Stone.
Jayne added: “Peter’s family kindly permitted us to do the auction to celebrate his incredible life.
“We were thrilled by the interest in his beautiful paintings and to include Peter in such a special day for Maycroft.”
